Structures for Environmental Learning
All of the students in the fourth grade SLURRP program visit the center for a Land/Sea day. All 450 SLURRP students spend half the day aboard LCF vessels learning about oysters, marine life, and water quality. They spend the other half of the day learning on land learning about plankton, the problems surrounding plastic litter, and ways that their neighborhoods have changed since the 1900s.
Masonville Cove has a variety of vernal pools that are used throughout programming. In the Science is Alive for Kids Under Five program, students go out to the pools to explore and catch tadpoles. The pools are also used when school groups visit. Student measure the water quality of the pools to determine what kind of wildlife can live there.
